Goodbye to Summer Empty
PostSubject: Goodbye to Summer   Goodbye to Summer I_icon_minitimeThu Sep 06, 2012 12:03 am

Music, food, sun, sand and good friends (plus a bit of alcohol and a lot of fun, of course!) were all the things needed for a good end of summer; kick off the school year right, type party. This particular group of friends had agreed early on to set aside a day, just after the semester had started, to ditch their classes and spend the day at the beach swimming and enjoying the weather before settling down and dedicating themselves to their studies. And they had done exactly that. A couple had given in early and returned to campus for their last classes of the day but the rest had stayed and started up a bonfire on the beach as the sun started to go down. It was still a bit warm for a bonfire but every good beach party needed one so they'd have one.

Kythen (one of the co-planners of this entire shindig) had cooked up a couple hotdogs, grabbed a couple of Mike's and set off to re-locate Hikari, whom he'd lost amidst the dancing, beach volleyball, swimming and other such activities, earlier in the day. He found her settled off away from the main force of the party and he settled down next to her and all but shoved the food and drink into her lap. "Mustard only, just how you like it. And I know you don't drink unless I force you to so drink the Mike's or I will. It's a party, have a little fun." He told her with a wink, opening his own and taking a drink before tucking it safely into the sand next to him where he'd be unlikely to spill it and biting into his own hotdog as he contemplated the sunset that Hikari had been watching. After he swallowed and washed down the taste with another drink, he gave her a curious glance. "Not like the sunsets back in Texas huh? Or are you giving up on me already? If you want to go back to campus all you've got to do is say so. I can always come back....unless you had something else in mind." He added, giving her a playful nudge and a devious wink as he teased her.

Goodbye to Summer Empty
PostSubject: Re: Goodbye to Summer   Goodbye to Summer I_icon_minitimeThu Sep 06, 2012 12:24 am

Summer days drifting away...

Summer had always been Hikari's favourite season. It was almost legendary how much the young woman hated winter. It was cold. It was icy. It was unsightly. It was just gross. During the winter months, she spent as much time as she could in her wolf from, curled up in front of the fire as a furry red ball. Her parents used to joke that she was cold blooded, by the way she moved sluggishly and slept all the time. Hikari always refused to answer that. Summer, on the other hand, was everything she could ask for. Warm weather, long days, friends... Everything the young woman could ever ask for. She spent every moment she could outside in the sun, swimming, dancing, having fun with her friends, everything she could fit into a single day. And now that time was ending. It was always sad to see the summer days go, and she pulled a face at the idea. It meant school was staring up, too.

Not that she had anything against school, of course. She was here by choice.

Her thoughts were broken by the appearance of her best friend bearing food. She took the food, sticking her finger in the mustard on her hotdog to draw a smiley face on Ky's cheek, grinning. "Why thank you, good sir. And fine, if I get drunk and start stripping, it is all your fault. Just hope you know that." Ari informed him with a smile, taking a bite of her hotdog, nudging him back. It was no secret that the Japanese girl adored her best friend - but that didn't mean that she was going to let him go without teasing. That was the job of the best friend, right? Right. She polished off her hotdog before lying backwards on the sun, the white of her bikini contrasting with her skin and the sand.

"Definitely different, yes. And I'm not giving up and missing seeing you run around drunk, Ky. That's just too funny." Ari said with a laugh, ticking his side with one hand.

Ky couldn't help but laugh as she drew a smiley face on his cheek with mustard. "Very grown up, Ari." He teased, wiping the mustard off with one finger and dabbing it on the tip of her nose. "And you know I don't mind seeing you strip, though if I could actually get you to drink enough to be drunk while doing so it'd be a miracle." Ari was always a good girl and stopped before she had too many. That paired with the fact it was difficult for werewolves to get drunk anyway meant Hikari was never actually drunk. Not that he actually wanted to get his friend drunk but it was fun to pick on her about it. He finished off his own hotdog in a few quick bites and when she laid back on the sand he leaned back as well, propping his head up on one hand and tracing random patterns on her stomach with the other (though he didn't seem to realize he was even doing so).

"Hey! I don't get drunk anymore. You always stop me before I have too many. Killjoy." He told her, swatting at her hand when she tickled him. He was, of course, grateful for Hikari's support in not letting him be stupid. He'd done that once and he didn't really want to go there again. He wondered if she was aware just how much he appreciated her for just being there for him to tell him when he was being an idiot and stop him from making some very bad mistakes. So, in a moment of half-seariousness, he leaned down and placed a kiss on her forehead. "Love you, Ari. For a lot of things. You know that right?" He asked her, knowing she'd also know it wasn't that kind of love. The moment passed, and he reached behind him and managed to grab his drink without spilling it. After setting the cold bottle on Hikari's stomach for long enough to make her squirm, he took a drink (and seriously hoped Hikari didn't retaliate while he was trying to drink).

"You Americans are far too serious. I refuse to grow up until I am at least married." Ari informed Ky with a laugh, wrinkling her nose when he dabbed mustard on her nose. She had expected some sort of retaliation, of course, and rubbed the mustard off her nose with a grin. The two of them had gotten in all kinds of trouble back in Texas, though she never regretted a single moment. Okay, well, maybe she did regret going to the graveyard in the middle of the night to summon ghosts, just the two of them. But still. She rolled her eyes at him at his comment. "You've seen me naked before, Ky. It's not that big of a deal." She took a drink of her drink with a slight shrug. She had never been that big of a drinker in the first place, though she didn't mind a drink socially. She had never been that big of a hellion, unlike her best friend, other than the pranks they pulled. Ari had always been the level headed one of the two, but that didn't mean she didn't know how to have fun or anything like that.

Hikari automatically shifted closer to him when he traced patterns on her belly, a gesture she was used to and accepted. "That's true. And pfft, you love me anyway." Ari's words were confirmed by the kiss to her forehead, and she tilted her head up slightly to look into his eyes. He had gone through a rough patch, and there had been days where Hikari had feared the worse. But she never once turned her back on him. They might not be soul mates, but that didn't mean she didn't love him. "I do, Ky. And I love you too, you know that." She kissed his cheek softly, resting her head on his shoulder, moving close. They had gone through a lot, and she'd never walk away from him if she had a choice in it.

The black haired girl let out a squeak when he set his cold drink on her, earning a glare, but chose to be above that and instead asked, "You ready for school to start?"

He snorted her her comment and shook his head. "Me? Serious? Who the hell have you been talking to?" He questioned with a laugh. Sure he had his serious moments but, especially when he was surrounded by close friends, he also had his silly, immature side. " And I hope you never get married because then you'd be utterly boring." He teased, though he did hope she found the right guy and did eventually settle down and get married. He knew it wouldn't be with him and they were both okay with that. They were friends, they didn't need to be anything more. They'd tried that and it hadn't worked out. The fact they were still as close as they were still surprised him sometimes. He'd had other friends who'd done much the same as he and Hikari had and their friendship with each other had never been the same afterward. It was strange how things worked differently for different people. He considered himself very lucky to still have as strong a bond with Hikari as he did. "And I very much enjoy seeing you naked, Hikari. So yeah, it is kind of a big deal sometimes. Because it means you're still sleeping with me." Not that he cared if she was sleeping with someone else. Well, okay maybe a little but only because it meant he wasn't getting laid.

He met her gaze and let her see just how much he appreciated the fact that she was his friend. He sometimes didn't feel like he was able to show her or tell her enough. And that wasn't something he figured was ever going to change. He honestly wasn't sure he'd still be alive if not for Hikari. That wasn't something you just stopped being appreciative of. "I do know. I just feel like I don't tell you enough. Or anyone for that matter. So every now and then I need to have 'tell the people in your life how much you care' moments." Almost losing yourself to drug and alcohol and almost dying gave one a new appreciation for moments like that and he very rarely, if ever, passed them up.

He smirked at the way she squeaked when he set his drink on her and frowned at her comment. "I was having a good time until you mentioned that. Now, I no longer love you." He teased, poking her in the side and shaking his head. "But yeah, I guess I am. I mean, I'm as ready as anyone can be for the end of summer and what could potentially be their last year of school. Seems kinda surreal you know. Thinking about the fact that, depending on if I decide to pursue a higher degree, that this might be it. I really could be done with school for the rest of my life. It's a weird feeling, I kinda don't want it to start and I kinda do knowing that I could be done with it come next summer. Kinda like starting your senior year of high school." He told her, making a face at the mention of high school. Those had NOT been anywhere close to the best years of his life. And the people who said they were supposed to be were full of shit. At least as far as he was concerned.

"I swear. You are going to be one of those grandfathers that terrifies their grandchildren and horseplay's with them until they break. Provided that someone will want to have babies with you." Hikari wrinkled her nose in mock disgust before laughing and shoving his shoulder lightly, eyes dancing with mirth. Honestly, she did want him to settle down. She wanted him to find his soulmate and live happily ever after. She knew that he'd probably tease the crap out of her if she said so, but she honestly did. Kythen deserved someone to adore him and make him happy. A pensive look crossed her face as she drew circles on his chest with a finger. She didn't really think that she'd ever actually settle down - finding one's soulmate was a chance game that she didn't want to play. Sure, she had flings and such, Ky being one of them, and had a bunch of fun. But it wasn't true love, as cliche as that was. She mentally shook herself and stuck out her tongue. "You'd just be jealous of whatever guy married me. And I do remember how much you like my body. Quite vividly." Hikari gave him an impish smile before taking another drink, letting him think about that for a moment.

Hikari knew that he cared about her and that he needed her. She felt the same. She had done her best to keep him from doing stupid things, but Ky had always been strong willed. It didn't help that she was submissive by nature, despite her bossy attitude. When he had fallen into drugs and alcohol, she had done her best to protect him, and failed. She didn't want to remember him almost dying. She could still feel the sheer terror that had gone along with it. Almost losing him... Hikari moved closer, resting her head on his chest. "Well, for what it's worth, I do know. I've never doubted it, Ky. Ever. And don't you dare doubt how much I love you, either. It might not be like that, but it doesn't mean it's not as strong." She informed him with a quiet sigh.

Hikari just rolled her eyes at the comment about him withdrawing her love, flapping her hand in a dismissive gesture. She pouted slightly at the idea of him leaving, but nodded. "Do you have any idea what you'll be doing next?" Being only a sophomore, she really didn't have to worry about it yet, though it was on her mind. What was she going to do with her life? Hell if she knew.

"I will not break my grandchildren." He replied, pretending to be offended at the thought. "And so what? You're saying you wouldn't want to have my babies? It'd be fun making them." He teased, giving her a small shove in return for the one she gave him. Not that he was ready for kids and in all honesty the idea of him and Hikari having kids together terrified him. He could only imagine the trouble they'd cause. They'd be ten times worse than their parents, he was sure of it! Of course, he did want to find someone to marry and settle down with. He'd like to find his soul mate but if he found the right girl and fell in love...that wouldn't be all bad. They'd be happy, like his parents were. Not that he'd told many people that. "I would be. Only if it was a guy though. If you found yourself a nice girl well...maybe you'd invite me for a sleepover now and again hmm?" He knew Hikari was okay with girls. And if she found another girl that was okay with guys well....fun could be had for all parties involved. Of course, he couldn't stop the thought that Hikari had so expertly placed in his head with her comment and he adopted a thoughtful expression, like he was trying to remember something and couldn't. "Yeah but you know...I'm having a bit of trouble remembering how much you enjoyed my body. You'll have to remind me sometime." And the grin her gave her said he was only half-joking; they were both single as far as he knew, no harm in a little fun right?

As she laid her head on his chest, he couldn't help but wonder what might have been if things had turned out differently for them. They could very well have fallen in love, gotten married and had a family together. But would they have still had the same bond that they shared now? He doubted and and was glad things that turned out the way they had. Though he also knew if they'd turned out the other way he'd feel the same. "I know that you know. And if you start that I know that you know that I know bullcrap I will hurt you, just so you're warned. But I could never doubt how much you care. You were one of the few people who stood by me through everything and was there to help me when I needed it most. You will always have a place in here." He placed her hand over his heart as he spoke the last part and smiled at her. She was family of a sort. She was his packmate, his sister and his best friend. He'd always be there for her, even when she didn't want him around, just like she was for him.

The moment was broken when she asked what he planned to do next and he snorted. "Is that a 'what do you want to be when you grow up' type question?" He asked, rolling his eyes a bit at the idea. "But I dunno, I'd love to pursue my acting. It's something I love and something I'm good at. But I may never be good enough to go very far with it. But maybe I'll finish up that business degree I started and open up my chocolate shoppe like I've been talking about wanting to do." He shrugged and sighed. There were so many things that could go wrong that he'd never get anywhere with his life. Acting and owning his own chocolate shoppe/bakery were the two things he most wanted to do with his life. If he couldn't do either, he had no idea what else to turn to. To lighten the mood and change the subject, however, he flashed her a devious grin. "But that's long term stuff. I still have all year to figure that out and see what opportunities are out there for me. Right now, however, I'd like to be doing you. Or anyone really, but you happen to be available and sitting right next to me." It was an open invitation. She could turn him down if she wanted and he'd be okay with that.

"You will too. I feel sorry for your children, though." Hikari said teasingly. She couldn't help the laugh that bubbled forth when he mentioned having the babies herself. Hikari would probably always be a little bit in love with Ky. Who in their right mind wouldn't, though? Hikari had no problem admitting that Ky was hot, although she spent half her time deflating his ego because of it. But they had tried being together, and they just were better suited friends with the occasional wonderful benefit. The young woman laughed again, shaking her head. "I have nothing against that. However, I'm pretty sure our parents would keel over if I ended up pregnant. Not to mention Mama would force you to marry me, and then our lives will turn into a big soap opera and just no." Hikari wrinkled her nose. Drama. No thank you. "And if I found a girl who was inclined to some extra fun, Ky, you'd be at the top of my list." Hikari never had been bothered by her sexuality. You liked who you liked. That was that. She sent him an amused look. "Sometime, hmm? How soon would you like that reminder?"

Two could play at this game.

Hikari remained curled against him, head over his heart, just liking the closeness. No one could ever take Ky's spot in her heart, something she was grateful for. She'd always need him in her life. And after that accident... Well, she'd never take him for granted. Ever. "I won't. I know you love me, and I'm glad you do. You're my best friend. No one can replace you." Hikari spoke it gently, hand going up to play with Ky's hair gently. "I'm so happy you're in my life. I don't take anything for granted anymore, that's for sure." Shadows flickered in her eyes, and she curled her hand over Kythen's heart. "And you know I'll always help you. You're my packmate." There was no doubt that she would always follow Ky. Bestfriend, lover, alpha. She'd always look up to him.

Hikari stuck out her tongue when he grumbled at her, though listened attentively. "You should go with the chocolate shoppe. I think it'd be wonderful, especially popular, too. You know I'd be your biggest fan. Especially if you had chocolate covered strawberries." Hikari could be bribed to do just about anything with chocolate covered strawberries. No joke. Something flared in her eyes, turning the brown eyes slightly darker, at his invitation, and she smiled, tilting her head up. "Well, I'm here, aren't I?"

"Now you're just being mean. My kids and grandkids would be just fine." He told her, pretending to be hurt that she would think otherwise. Of course, then she laughed at him and he couldn't help but join her when she replied. "Your Mama Mikhals would have to go through Gramps first. And he's already got plans for me." Plans he hadn't yet mentioned to Hikari which he remembered only after he'd said it and winced a little, hoping she wouldn't ask about it and ruin his mood. "We wouldn't be that bad as a married couple. At least we get along right? Being married wouldn't change that, though I guess it would be kind of awkward to say our vows when there's no real feeling behind them." Which was why his grandfather's idea of an arranged marriage was so.....unacceptable. How could he stand and vow to cherish and love someone he hardly knew? He could only smirk when she promised she'd call him if she ever found a girl who was open to sharing. It wasn't something he'd ever tried but the idea was somewhat tempting, but only with the right people. It was not something he'd go out and do on a whim. And with that thought floating around in his head he sort of neglected to answer her next question, which was just as well considering he knew that any more teasing would lead to the very thing they were teasing about. Not that that was a bad thing, of course, he just wasn't quite ready to do any sneaking off.

"Thank you." It was really all he could think to say as she spoke. He knew they'd always share a close bond and, even if their paths lead them away from each other, they would always be close. There was no denying that. And he was glad for it too. There were very few people in the world lucky enough to find a friendship like they shared. "You know full well I won't have anything to do with strawberries. The last thing I need is to have a bloody allergic reaction because something didn't get washed properly or someone dripped juices all over the place and didn't tell me." Though, for Hikari, he did often buy chocolate covered strawberries from Mr. Hans' chocolate shop. She was the only person for whom he'd go within ten feet of a strawberry. At the look she gave him he couldn't help but smile a bit smugly as he met her gaze. "Yes you are. But I smell chocolate over there. I think they've started on the S'mores." He told her, rolling away from her and getting to his feet. He offered her a hand to help her up and motioned toward the fire. "S'mores first, then sex. Agreed?" Yep, chocolate was just that important.

"Ky darling. Who exactly was the one who proposed streaking down the halls at school again? Your children will never be able to show their faces at school." Hikari shoved him lightly, flicking sand onto his chest. She let out another bark of laughter, nuzzling his neck before sitting up, saying, "I'm pretty sure Mama ships us as a couple harder than we were interested. She's fully convinced that I'm gonna end up some crazy cat lady." Hikari rolled her eyes. Her mother was constantly worrying that because she hadn't found her soulmate, she was destined to be alone for the rest of her life. It wasn't a thought that really bothered her. She didn't need a lover in her life. As long as she had her friends and family, she was good. It wasn't like she didn't want her soulmate, but she wasn't going to beat herself up because she didn't have one. "And that's true. I'm not sure why married couples are even together if they don't get along. Doesn't make any sense to me. Then again, people are stupid. So." She shrugged, her brown hair rippling down her shoulders.

She let Ky help her to her feet, giving him a small peck on the lips. "You're welcome, Ky. Anytime." She said it simply. There was very little she wouldn't do for her friends, especially her number one. She dusted off her swimsuit with a grin at him. She knew how much he despised strawberries, and for good reasons. It was like her peanut allergy. She'd rather not have either one of them go into shock and suffocate, that's for sure. But Hikari? She loved strawberries. Ky had bribed her many a times with the promise of strawberries. "Sure. I always loved the taste of chocolate and you." She grinned at him.

"Race ya." She threw over her shoulder as she took off towards the campfire, laughing.

"And who was it that decided to sneak out to the cemetery in the dead of night to talk to ghosts? Don't act like you're innocent in all of this, Ari. Besides, you could have refused to go with me but you didn't so it's all your fault. If you'd told me I was crazy and that I shouldn't do it I wouldn't have." But Hikari had decided that, though the idea was crazy, it sounded fun and off they'd gone, scandalizing several teachers and more than a couple of their fellow students. They'd both gotten into trouble and been suspended for a week (not to mention forced to make a public apology) for their antics. But it was well worth the trouble to see the looks on the faces of the people around them. "I'm sure she does. As does every mother wolf in our pack. Who wouldn't want their daughter to catch the eye of the future Alpha? But you won't own cats would you? You know I can't stand them." Of course, Hikari would know he liked cats well enough, he was just allergic to them and therefore refrained from spending a lot of time around them. "Because there are plenty of people who think love is stronger than it really is. I think they're just convinced that they still love each other and they can get over not getting along. Or that love will somehow magically make them the best of friends. Or maybe they just like the make-up sex. Who the hell knows."

The way he watched her brush sand off her swimsuit said he was thinking more interesting thoughts but he only dusted sand off of himself and rescued his neglected drink (if only so he couldn't be accused of littering). He grinned devilishly at her comment about the chocolate and followed after her. "Then maybe we'll have to make use of the chocolate in a decidedly more fun manner than putting it on s'mores." He replied easily, knowing full well they didn't have access to the fun kind of chocolate. When she took off toward the fire, he took off after her and let her win their impromptu race. "Winner has to make the loser a s'more." He announced, much to the amusement of anyone within earshot.

After a couple s'mores and a couple more drinks (at least on Ky's part), Ky leaned into Hikari and whispered in her ear. "How about we go for a walk? Leave the party crowd behind and have some fun, just you and I?" He asked her, before standing and strolling casually off down the beach. He was pretty confident that Hikari would follow considering they'd all but agreed that they would be spending the night together not that long ago.

Hikari gave him a flat look. "And who exactly was the one who agreed to summon said ghosts with me, despite our parents warning us not to, hmm?" Okay, so maybe summoning ghosts in the middle of the night hadn't been their greatest idea. The ghosts had been less than happy to be awoken by a couple of teenagers who were testing their powers. She shuddered at the memory. No thank you. She was in no hurry to repeat that experience any time soon, that was for sure. No matter how much she wanted to test her powers, she tried to avoid waking angry ghosts. "And the streaking was, admittedly, fun. The whole public apology thing, not so much, but whatever. Although I think my dad nearly killed us both." She winced at that. Her father was a fairly gentle mad, but when he got angry, it was like hell on earth. Hikari had been scared that he was going to rip them to pieces - literally. "And you know I don't care about the Alpha thing. I could personally care less. My parents, on the other hand..." She shrugged. She didn't want to have to be in charge of anyone - despite her bossy personality, she was fairly submissive... well, to Ky anyway. "I believe love is strong. But what's the point when it makes everyone so unhappy. I don't understand people sometimes."

Hikari watched him with a fond smile, rolling her eyes when she was the one to make him the s'mores. Not that she actually had problems with that. She chatted with a couple of people as she roasted their marshmallows, flirting and having a good time. Soon school would be up and the stress of tests, classes, and the normal drama that came with being in school would raise it's head. She mentally rolled her eyes as she gave Kythen his sweet treat. Why couldn't people just go with the flow? Really. It wasn't that big of a deal. Hikari pushed those thoughts away, determined to have fun, drinking another couple of drinks (rare for her, but hey, she was allowed to let loose sometimes), eating s'mores.

Hikari felt a thrill go through her at Ky's words, taking one last swig of her drink before throwing it away in the appropriate bin (because being yelled at really wasn't any fun) and following him. "Sounds like a plan." She murmured, catching up with him, looking forward to what was to come.

"A headstrong and foolish young wolf, that's who. At least we had those charms my mom gave us, saved us a lot of trouble I think." He was man enough to admit they'd been very stupid to try and use their powers without proper training. It was not something they'd done since, though he'd found that ghosts tended to find him when they wanted something. But he could generally ignore them unless they were being particularly persistent. Like Jeffries. That ghost irritated the hell out of him. And he couldn't figure out how to make him go away. It was like having an obsessive stalker but not quite as dangerous. Jeffries was harmless, he just liked to pop in for a visit at inopportune moments and make a nuisance of himself. "Your dad was nothing compared to my mom when she got me alone. I'm still surprised to this day that she didn't kill me, she could hardly find words to vent her anger at me. You've never seen my mom truly angry, Ari. She's absolutely terrifying." There was a reason no one in the Lyaer family crossed their matriarch very often. She was downright scary when she was pissed off. "I don't get people either. And I never said love wasn't strong, it's just not as strong as a lot of people make it out to be. It can't overcome everything. Sometimes it breaks and it can't be fixed. Some people just don't get that." He wasn't sure he could really put his thoughts into words that would make sense and he didn't want to argue with Hikari on the subject of love. They'd discussed that subject enough already.

When she caught up to him on the beach, he slid his hand into hers and twined their fingers together. There were plenty of people who were convinced that he and Hikari were dating, even when they were both seeing other people. How that was supposed to work he had no idea but if people wanted to think that, he wasn't going to argue with them. He knew the truth and that was good enough for him. He wasn't sure where they would go but eventually an idea struck him. They weren't that far from the marina and Dallas wasn't exactly a haven for boaters. Havelock, however, with it's easy access to the ocean, had it's share of fancy boats. "You know...I have a friend who told me I can use his boat whenever I want. It's one of those fancy things with like...a full size kitchen, living room and bedroom. Beats the hell out of getting sand in uncomfortable places I'd think." He suggested, heading toward the marina without actually waiting for her answer.
