“Sweetheart, go dance with your boyfriend"

It had been the longest month of her life. So much had happened in one day a month ago, that she felt her life had been changed forever…and that scared her to the core. She had never felt so overwhelmed and confused and hurt before, and she had not known how to cope. So…she had ignored it. It wasn’t the best option she knew but she had prayed and prayed to God what to do and had gotten nothing. Maybe it was because she was now no longer in his favor now that she was…no. She couldn’t even think about it. She had tried to continue on her normal routine and had managed fairly well, and then she had gotten the invitation from D’artagnan to the ball. She hadn’t wanted to go, not after their little fight, she was afraid to face him, but Mia had encouraged her to go…well more than just encouraged, she had all but twisted her arm. She had bought Misha a dress and mask behind her back than did her hair and make-up, so Misha had been given no choice. If Mia said she was going…she was going.

She had tagged along with Mia and her boyfriend, she had been too afraid to show up there alone to find him. Mia and her boyfriend Robbie were so madly in love as young couples were, so she had felt a little awkward with them, but it was still better than wandering alone. Mia was a good friend though, so very loyal, she had refused to go off and dance with her boyfriend and leave Misha alone. They had grabbed a small table at the edge of the room and Mia had insisted her boyfriend just seat, shut up and eat because they weren’t abandoning her best friend. Misha had appreciated it but knew Mia wanted nothing more than to go have fun so she told her to go and that she would be fine alone. Mia had frowned “No way Mish, I’m not leaving you to sit all alone here like a wallflower. No way”. Misha had smiled and touched her face “Sweetheart, go dance with your boyfriend. I’ll be fine. If he shows up he shows up if not…that’s fine” She reassured her. Mia did not look convinced but with her boyfriend’s added encouragement she gave Misha a hug and whisked off, but not before saying “He’d be crazy not to show up for you”

She had smiled at them brightly as the couple went off to dance, but then it slowly faded and she sighed, glancing around the room. Maybe he couldn’t recognize her? Or maybe he just realized he was still mad at her and bailed…her shoulders slumped and she ended up taking off her mask and fiddling with it on her lap. She had been a wallflower all through high school, and she didn’t like it. She felt embarrassed to sit there alone, and debated whether she should just go instead of being the only loser in the room without a date.

D'artagnan had felt horrible the moment he had left the house on that fateful day. He had yelled at her which was the last thing he wanted to do. But it hurt his feelings for her to sit there and tell him what he did was wrong. He had gone against everything that he knew, every rule he was suppose to follow for her and she told him that she didn't want him to. He snapped, and afterward he instantly regretted it.

He had allowed Michelle to go back to her house as long as Wrinkle accompanied her. He figured it was better this way, he was her protector but that didn't mean she had to stay at his home nad feel like a prisioner. So for a month he barely spoke to her, allowing her time to cool off and gather her thoughts. She was going through a lot and the last thing she needed was to see him and be reminded what happened. However, the annual Masquerade Ball was upon them at Aeternitas and D'artagnan wanted to make it up to Michelle so, he invited her.

Luckily, since it was so close to All Hallows Eve he would be able to go as himself. It was nice to get rid of the human disguise for a wonderful holiday. He adjusted the collar of his sparkily blue coat and pinned his sapphire diamond brouch onto his ascot that poofed elegantly in front of his chest. He hadn't worn this attire in a long time, since Queen Titania's ball in the late thirteen hundreds. It was amazing it still fit and he looked rather handsome.

He appeared at the ball in a flash and walked into the ball. Unlike others at the ball he wasn't wearing a mask, his "make up" as many liked to say was good enough in his opinion. The orchestra played softly in the corner filling the dim lit room with a sense of romance. His famous mix matched gaze scanned the room until they fell upon Michelle in the corner. Squaring his shoulders her weaved his way though the crowd until he was right beside her, without a pause in his step her swept her into his arms and effortlessly blended onto the dance floor in an elegant waltz. "You look beautiful." he said in an almost whisper seeing her dressed in such a way made his throat tighten forcefully.

She barely even got a chance to really look at them

He wasn’t going to come. As she sat there she was convinced he wasn’t going to be there. She kept telling herself that Mia had just come very early but…this was her she was talking about. The way her life seemed to be going it didn’t seem that anything was going to happen in her favor. She had never been asked to a dance before, not really. She had gone to her prom, but her best friend had asked her and she had worn one of her church dresses so that didn’t count. Just as she was about to slink off back home and cry her little eyes out, she saw at the corner of her eye someone coming up to her. She barely even got a chance to really look at them before she was swept off into the dancing crowd. She gasped, her eyes widening in surprise…until she saw who it was “D’artagnan” She breathed out his name and felt her heart beat begin to wildly hammer in her chest. He had come after all.

She knew how to waltz, she had learned, but he was far better than her, she could tell within the first five seconds of dancing with him and that made her even more nervous. She hadn’t even gotten a chance to get her bearings straight, but he was there, that’s all that mattered. She blushed bright red at his compliment and glanced down immediately “T-t-thank you…” She murmured bashfully, glancing up to look him over discreetly “You look...you look very…” She was so nervous, especially after the last time they had seen each other and what had happened. “Handsome” She finally stammered out and gave him a small smile, gazing at him for a few moments before lowering her gaze so she didn't end up staring at him like a love-struck school girl.

"A beautiful woman like you shouldn't be sitting alone looking so sad. Are you still upset with me?" he asked softly spinning gracefully across the floor, effortlessly weaving in and out between couples who danced around them. He was surprised that she knew how to waltz. It wasn't like they taught these things in the nunnery. The way his name breathlessly came from her lips made his pride swell in his chest. She may still be upset with him but that didn't mean she didn't find him attractive. He was a sexy bastard afterall. Something in him said that she thought that he would stand her up. As if he would ever do something so low. No, he had invited her and he was going to give her a magical night.

Smiling her nodded his head to her thanks and spun her around to where her back was now pressed against his chest, he held both of her hands out to the side and continued to dance, his lips dangerously close to her neck. His hot breath teased the skin there, he even smiled when he felt her magic brush against his cheek. It accepted him which was of course a good thing. He saw what happenened when it didn't and he really didn't feel like being thrown through a wall. This was a very expensive out fit the last thing he wanted was for it to get ruined.

"What is it little one?" he asked in a husky whisper his lips ghosting over her flesh, "Cat got your tongue?" He knew he shouldn't be teasing her in such a way. She was after all, innocent and a unicorn which made her extra innocent and extra off limits. But he couldn't help himself. She looked so beautiful and delicious that he couldn't help but want to devour the little unicorn in his arms. Spinning her again his placed her left hand on his heart and wrapped his arm around her waist holding her close to his body. When she finally finished her sentence he smiled and leaned towards her kissing her cheek softly, his lips touching the corner of her lips as well. "Thank you my lady."

"I couldn't lose you"

She shook her head quickly “No, no…quite the contrary. I…am still upset that I made you upset” Probably any other normal person would have still been mad at him for the way he had lost his temper, but not Misha. Yes him yelling at her had made her cry…a lot, but she still felt bad that she had been the source of his anger. The way he moved her about…she was in awe. He was a fantastic dancer and if she had simply been watching her jaw would have been dropped and her eyes glued to him, but she was the one actually dancing with him, so now she was getting all stressed out over-thinking how to dance. She knew how too yes but…this was D’artagnan. He was probably used to dancing with elegant, flawless women who danced like they were on clouds and Misha wasn’t one of them she was sure.

When he spun her so she faced away from him her heart went up her throat, into her brain and she was pretty sure it popped out of her head. Having his body close against hers, his lips near her skin, it did things she knew a woman of her religious stature should not be feeling. Forget feeling tongue tied, she felt body and mind tied as well, like she had suddenly just turned into a deaf mute person who was disabled from the neck down. Her heart hammered, skipping several beats it seemed when he spoke and she felt his lips against her skin. Was she dreaming? She had to be dreaming. A blush erupted over her cheeks, which she felt it was safe since she was facing away from him but of course her luck, he decided to turn her back towards him.

She tried to distract herself by looking at her hand as he placed it over his heart, staring there for a few moments before she felt him kiss her cheek. Her eyes closed and she sucked in a breath, feeling a shiver go down her spine. How did he do this to her? Make her feel this way? It was a good thing he was holding her so well or she probably would have just fainted right then and there. She opened her eyes and gazed at him for a few moments, forgetting to actually breathe, but she brought in a breath and brought the hand over his heart to touch his face gently. “I’m sorry” She murmured “I know the risk you took for me, I do and I’m grateful. You saved my life against the hellhound and against those…Elders and I couldn’t even begin to know how to repay you” She then frowned and her expression turned sad “I just…I’ve lost too many people in my life. My parents, my aunt, my friends…You wanted to protect me I know but I just wanted to protect you. I didn’t want to lose anyone else…especially not you. I, I couldn’t…I couldn’t lose you” She then glanced down and lowered her hand from his face "I didn't mean to make you so angry"

Effortlessly picking Misha off the ground he spun her slowly in time with the music, the fabric of her gown weaving around his legs with every moment. Her comment made the Djinn's head tilt slightly. How could she be upset with herself? She had done nothing wrong. He had been the one that literally blew up on her. It was curse being a fae, their kind were easily offended. Like children really.

Lowering her back to the ground D'artagnan dipped her low as the music came to an end, his magical eyes locking with Michelle's icy iris's. One arm was braced softly at her lower back while the other held her head. While on his little seperation from Michelle, his father had paid him a lovely visit. Warning him that any affections for Michelle shouldn't be dropped as soon as possible. She was a unicorn, the purest creature on the planet, they could not afford to have her corrupted by him. Part of him understood, unicorns were precious creatures, vampires, werewolves, and witches had all but erradictaed them so keeping the last one safe was the top priority.

However, it was no as easy as one would think to rid ones self of feelings of attraction to another person. Especially one like Michelle. She was beauiful, sweet, loving, selfless, and honorable. No, he could not, would not get rid of his feelings for her. His father be damned. Her hands touched his face bringing him out of his thoughts. Blinking he looked down at her and smiled. "You have nothing to apolgize for and you're not going to lose me. I'm staying right here...forever." his words were barely above a whisper but he meant every one of them. Pulling Misha to stand he cleared his throat and offered her his arm. "Come...I'll get you something t refresh yourself. Your friends have been staring at us since we stepped onto the floor and it's making a bit nervous. I'm not sure if the woman wants to hug me or strangle me."

She was so helplessly in love that it frightened her

When he picked her up she gasped but then erupted in giggles, a bright smile breaking over her face as she put her arms around him. He was like a fairytale to her, like he was a prince who walked straight out of a princess book. The kind of man as a little girl she had always dreamed of, then was told as a teenager that they did not exist and she would be alone forever if she waited for such a prince. But she had given up that dream when she became a nun, she had come to be perfectly happy with the idea of never falling in love or getting married and having children, because the church and God had been enough for her, her cup have overrun with happiness in the life she chose. But then she came here and she met him and now everything in her life was changing so quickly. Some things good, others she considered bad and so many times she felt helpless because she could do nothing to control it.

She was all smiles when he dipped her, but slowly her face turned to wonder as he stared into her eyes and she found herself memorized like she often did when she stared at him for too long. She was so in love with him, she was so helplessly in love that it frightened her. She thought of him all the time, yearned to see him even when he was mad at her, she ached to be near him. She tried many times already to ride her feelings for him, had prayed and begged God to not let her feel the way she did because she knew how wrong it was to love him but nothing worked, in fact it only got worse every day. She was still convinced his feelings for her and the way he cared was simply out of friendship and nothing more, for how could a man like him ever love her in return? He couldn’t. He would want a shockingly beautiful fae just as he was to be with…not her. And anyway, she was a nun, she couldn’t be with him…she kept having to remind herself of that, for somehow it was easy to forget when she was with him.

She smiled again when he told her he was not going anywhere and she nodded slightly, having to blink a few times to snap out of the spell she felt she was under. When he pulled her to stand she felt a bit lightheaded but she managed to pull off looking semi normal and laughed breathlessly “You? Nervous? Impossible” She said playfully, taking his arm and looked down, taking a deep breath to try and put her scrambled mind back together “But I am sure it is hug”

D'artagnan escorted Michelle over to the beverage table and handed her a glass of champagne. Even now he could feel the eyes of the Elders watching him. Nosey bastards.

Sipping on his drink he looked Michelle over again, she was beautiful, elegant, pure. Everything a man needed in a woman but didn't always look for. She was loyal and brave when she needed to be and wise. Though he tried to deny it, he was falling head over heels in love with the girl. An emotion that was very foreign to him. D'artagnan didn't know how to love anything. He had never experienced it before. Any woman he had ever been with only wanted him for his power, they sought after his lamp to try and bind him to them. But Michelle...she had no interest in his lamp.

"You'd be surprised, I'm more complicated than you know darling." he smiled elegantly and gave her friend a slight bow of his head to show he meant Michelle no harm. Placing his hand over Michelle's he lead her towards the exit of the ballroom. "I have a surprise for you back at my apartment." he whispered in her ear, gently brushing away the golden strands of hair that lingered on her neck. "A romantic midnight picnic for just the two of us." he would do anything to make up for his outburst to Michelle. And since she was such a hopeless romantic like him, why not have a little romanace to spice up the night. Elders be damned.

"Really?"

She took the glass of champagne and thanked him, taking a very little sip of it. She didn’t drink anything with a drop of alcohol in it, she never had, not even something as light as champagne. Hell, she didn’t even drink coffee. A nun was never to drink of course…but also nuns weren’t supposed to be secretly fae who happened to be in love with another fae. She took a bigger sip of the champagne and tried to ignore the odd taste that she wasn’t accustomed too. Wasn’t stuff like champagne and wine supposed to calm you? She couldn’t remember, but if it did she really could use it since D’artagnan was making her heart go insane inside her chest and he wasn’t even doing anything anymore right now.

She glanced over to Mia who was watching them and smiled at her. Mia was as protective of Misha as Misha was of her, they were like sisters, and poor Mia’s boyfriend was standing there looking a bit pouty he was being ignored with Mia’s attention so tuned on Misha and D’artagnan. But seeing Misha smile and D’artagnan bow his head she smiled back and finally turned her attention back to her boyfriend, subtly approving that D’artagnan wasn’t going to crush Misha’s heart into a million pieces. She took another sip of the champagne before looking to D’artagnan curiously as he led her to the exit. When he mentioned the picnic her eyes lit up and she beamed “Really?” Since there last picnic had been ruined, she was very excited for this “That sounds wonderful!” She was going to be alone with him in his apartment…and they were having a romantic picnic…they were friends. They were just friends…so why was she suddenly blushing and feeling all nervous?

"Really. I made most of the food myself. With help from Wimbo of course."

Her happiness warmed his heart as he lead her out of the ballroom and down the hallways of the school. However as he walked he noticed the hallways were a tad longer than they use to be. Looking behind him he could faintly hear the music from the ball. They should have reached the stairs by now. Patting her hand softly he quickened his pace and took the next right only to see the wall behind them close. It would seem the school had a mind of it's own tonight.

The hairs on the back of his neck suddenly stood on end. Something was watching them. Wrapping his arm around her waist he stopped and looked over his shoulder. Out of the corner of his eye he saw a dark figure staring at them from around the corner. He tried to summon his power to teleport them out of the school but nothing happened. This was not good. Bending down slowly he grabbed the end of her dress and ripped it until up to her thigh. "Misha, don't look behind us but we're in a bit of trouble." Taking off her shoes he tossed them to side. A deep sounding groan came from the corner where D'artagnan had seen the creature.

Just as D'artagnan was about to start walking again something tackled him hard to the ground. His eyes widened at the sight of the creature in front of him. The beasts mouth clamped down on his shoulder. "Misha run!" he yelled kicking the beast off of him. He would have to give Michelle a head start. The creature lunged at him again and clamped his jaw on his arm. "Son of a bitch!" he screamed embedding his fist in the side of the beasts face.

…what was behind them?

Misha didn’t notice anything was wrong when they left the great hall, she was too much on cloud nine and her eyes were more on him then there surroundings. It took her a while to notice his expression was a bit off, as if he was noticing something strange that she wasn’t. She frowned slightly “Something wrong?” She asked as he quickened his steps, wondering what he was seeing that she wasn’t. She glanced around but nothing seemed out of the ordinary to her, just the hallway…then the wall behind them closed and she quickly whipped around to stare, her jaw opening and she pointed at it, stunned before stammering out “W-what…it…the wall..it-“ Did he see that?! What was happening?

She looked up at him as he looked behind her and she was about to look where he was but stopped when he told her not too. She stared at him fearfully…what was behind them? Her heart started to beat and she felt a sick feeling in her stomach. She stared at him in shock when he kneeled down and ripped at her dress. She gasped and took a startled step back “W-what are you d-doing?” Her eyes were wide and she became speechless. She wanted to look behind her but was too afraid…and then she heard the growl and she felt like ice entered her veins. Her lips parted and she started to tremble, tears filling her eyes. Last time she heard a growl behind her, a monstrous beast had chased and tried to kill her.

“D’artagnan-“ She started to say his name, scared to death about what was happening, when something attacked him. She screamed at the top of her lungs and stumbled back, her body hitting one of the walls harshly as she watched in horror some…demon attack D’artagnan. She screamed another time, tears clouding her vision. Oh God…oh God, what was happening? God have mercy, what was happening?! Her instincts kicked in and she turned to run away, but stopped herself. What was she doing?! She couldn’t run! D’artagnan had risked his life for her, and she could not just flee and leave him to be killed! She turned back to the two struggling then looked around frantically for something, but all she saw were frames on the walls…well, so be it then. She grabbed one and took it off its hook and almost fell backwards, not expecting it to be so heavy. She half carried/half dragged the picture frame over and using all the strength she could, whacked the creature on the side with it….unaware that the magic in her had swelled from her rush of emotions and had added itself into the hit.

D'artagnan's shoulder was throbbing and crimson blood oozed from his wound like a river staining the irreplacable jacket of his attire. But that wasn't important. No Michelle was scared and secretly so was D'artagnan. He was a skilled fighter, but the inability to use his magic made him nervous. He had never gone a single day without it and now he was in a twisted version of the school's hallways fighting with some horrid demon. His arm throbbed angrily, something was fractured if not broken. He would never survive as a human that was for sure. He was use to fixing his wounds the moment they happened. The constant throbbing was doing nothing for his mood.

He kept his focus on the demon as it made it's way back towards him it's many mouths open and ready to take a chop out of his flesh when out of no where (or at least not where he could see) a massive picture frame smashed in the side of the demons face sending it several feet away from him. Looking over his shoulder at the panting Michelle he took no time to scold her for not listening. Instead he grasped her hand tightly and took off down the hallway ignoring the rapid footsteps of the demon that chased them. At the last second D'artagnan wrapped his arm around Michelle's waist and dove to the left where the wall was closing. They landed with a hard thud on the carpeted floor before the wall closed fully. On the other side he could hear the frantic clawing of the demons talons trying to tear through the enchanted barrier between him and his prey.

Groaning D'artagnan sat up slowly and leaned against the wall carefully removing his jacket from his body to look at his wound. With his good arm he flipped the jacket over slowly and ripped the fabric lining. It would have to do until they found something else to bind the wound with or until his powers returned. "Are you alright?" He said finally using his teeth to tear the fabric in thick sheets He wrapped his arm first since it was easier. Hopefully the beast didn't have any kind of poison with no antidote D'artagnan would be a goner. "I told you to run silly girl. You could have gotten yourself hurt." He hissed loudly as he tightened the knot holding the bandage in place on his arm. Just imagining this happening to Michelle was enough to make him sick to his stomach.

She nodded for at the moment that was all she could do

Misha knew she had absolutely no strength, she barely expected to even stun the demon, she was just trying to distract it so D’artagnan could get away from it. She had not been expecting to send it flying and she dropped the picture frame in shock, staring at where the creature landed. She had done that?! How had she done that?! She didn’t have any more time to think about it because suddenly D’artagnan was grabbing her hand and running and her adrenaline kicked back in, quickly making her legs move to run with him. She could hear it behind them and all she could feel was panic, such fear that she felt she would drop from it but she couldn’t, she knew she had to keep running to try and get away from the monster…but how? She was starting to realize none of the hallways were the way they were supposed to be, how would they get out and to safety?

She gasped then shouted in surprise when D’artagnan grabbed her and threw them off to the side so suddenly. She would have made a pained sound from the impact, but her body was on such a terrible rush she didn’t feel a single thing when they hit the floor. Her heart was so loud in her ears she couldn’t seem to hear anything else, and her body was frantically kicking into survival mode, trying to tell her to get the heck up and keep running! But as she frantically looked around she saw the wall close, keeping the demon at bay. She felt such relief that…she started to cry, covering her mouth as the terror and adrenaline and other crazy emotions exploded in her. She sat there frozen for a few moments staring at the wall, just bawling her eyes out until she could smell the icky scent of blood and turned to look at D’artagnan. “Oh…oh no, oh no, oh no, oh no!” She quickly moved over to him, looking at his wounds…and she just cried harder.

She nodded for at the moment that was all she could do as she watched him rip his jacket apart to try and bind his wounds. She raised her hands and hovered them near him, wanting to do something but her whole body was shaking so horribly and she didn’t know what to do. She stared at all the blood before looking to his face when he spoke “I couldn’t leave you” She cried, her lips trembling as she spoke. She glanced over to the wall that had appeared then him “What was that thing? H-how..how do we get out, your hurt, what-what do we do I-“ She was frantic.

D'artagnan took a moment to look around their surroundings. There were no doors, no windows, nothing. Just a hallway holding various paintings that that he had never seen before within the school. As effectively as he could D'artagnan wrapped his shoulder and hissed loudly until he tied the knot to hold the binding together. Michelle began to cry, which did nothing for his nerves. Groaning he tossed the ruined jacket to the side and stood up. "Michelle darling, please stop crying. Your tears will solve nothing."

Offering her his good hand he pulled her from the floor and used his thumb to brush away her tears. "You must keep a level head, we don't know when that beast will return and if you weaping it will only hinder instead of help." offering her a small smile he took her hand and started down the hallway ignoring the ever repeating pattern of hall. "From what I know the school was built on a great place of power. he began looking over his shoulder as the way they had come, began to darken before his very eyes. No doubt silently changing it's shape to keep them confused. "Now that I think about it, every year on Halloween students and staff ended up going missing. Though I've never paid much attention to it until now, the vale between our world and that of the spirit world is very thin on this night, so it would make sense that something would make it's way though."

Soon they came to a fork in the road, the wall split into to sections, one could go left, or the other right. It was like his mother always said, "When in doubt, always go right.". Giving Michelle's hand a soft squeeze he took the right path. "A demon must have passed through a long time ago and comes back every year to use the school as a hunting ground. It's rather brilliant if you think about it."

How did they get through this?

Stopping crying was easier said than done, but she did try just so he wouldn’t get angry with her. She sucked in a breath and pursed her lips together, but her mouth still trembled and tears kept falling down her cheeks but, at least she wasn’t sobbing…? It was the best she could do at the moment. She took his offered hand, for without it she wouldn’t have been able to stand on her wobbly legs. She stepped closer to him, glancing to his injury then his face and gazed at him quietly as he wiped her tears and nodded. He was right…she couldn’t cry, but she didn’t know how to be brave. She wasn’t used to creatures hunting her down and being placed in scary situations. How did they get through this? But D’artagnan must know what to do…he always knew what to do. With him here, they would be fine…she believed that.

She squeezed his hand tightly and followed close behind him as they wandered down the hall, her eyes looking everywhere, mistaking any shadow as the beast and jumping in fright before realizing it was nothing. She listened to him talk intently, it was helping keep her calm…at least, as calm as she could be in such a predicament. She wondered as he took the right path if he had any idea what he was doing or if he was as clueless as she was right now. She hoped not…or they were doomed, because she was really, really clueless. Her eyes widened “Brilliant?” She would hardly call it brilliant…terrifying yes, but brilliant? Mm, not so much, no. Her hand shook in his “I’m scared” She whispered “Are we stuck in here? Are we going to get out? What if were stuck in here forever?” Frantic panic was starting to set back in “Oh my gosh…I don’t want to be stuck in here. I…there’s so much I, I wanted to do and, and now were going to be stuck in here!”

D'artagnan's arm was throbbing angrily but nothing he couldn't handle for now. Giving Michelle's hand a gently squeeze he continued down the ever winding hallway. He would have a long talk with Evelyn about this in the morning. Perhaps he could find a spell to cancel out the curse. They didn't need anymore disappearing students, he was surprised no one had done an investigation in it yet. "I know love." he said gently pulling Michelle closer to him and kissing her temple. "We'll get out of here. I promise. I wont leave you in here. After all you're a princess. We can't have a princess go missing now can we." He smiled and pulled her into a hug.

He gently rubbed her hair with his good hand and kissed the crown of her head. In truth he didn't know where he was going. He had been in his fair share of labyrinths but none like this. There was no stars to guide him, no sounds or wildlife. This was an enclosed space and they were rats in a maze. Opening his eyes he looked in front of him and tilted his head to the side. There was a door, in front of him that had not been there before. Retaking Michelle's hand he stepped forward and touched the door. It was warm, definitely not an illusion.

Twisting the knob he opened the door, on the other side was the kitchens. Give Michelle a small tug he stepped through into the dark kitchen. It was cold, the only light coming from the soft blue lights that gave the room an eery glow. The kitchens were in the middle of the school on the first floor. The ball was on the second. Which means that school's inner hallways and rooms were flipped meaning they could walk through the kitchen doors and end up the history department. They had to be a pattern. Before them stood two doors, the swinging doors which lead to the cafeteria, and freezer door which lead to the freezer.

"It seems we are at a fork in the road." he said softly looking between the doors. Now the only question was, which one to go through.

Suddenly she heard something behind them

She clung to him as he hugged her, burying her face against him and closing her eyes, bringing in the comfort and warmth of him as she tried to force herself to calm down and not go ballistic. She just held him for a few moments and felt her erratic heart beat slow and the nervous trembling of her body simmer down. She could have just stood there and held him for hours, but she noticed his attention had gone elsewhere and she turned her head and looked surprised to see the door “Was that…there before?” She asked, a bit of fear in her voice. When he got closer to it she hesitated and pulled back slightly, wary of going through it. What if it was a trap? But if D’artagnan felt it was safe then it had to be fine. He had to know much more than she did about all of this.

She stepped through the door and glanced around, sticking so close to him she might as well just climbed up on his back. She looked between the doors and pointed to the cafeteria one “It has to be that one…we can’t go into the freezer. It's a dead end” It seemed obvious to her, but then again for all they knew the freezer door really didn’t lead to the freezer. Suddenly she heard something behind them, something scuttling on the floor of the kitchen. She jumped and screeched, turning around and looking but she couldn’t see anything. She whimpered and squeezed his hand hard and felt fresh tears prick her eyes “Oh no…oh no, oh no” Her heart started roaring in her ears again and her legs buckled a bit as she looked all about frantically “It’s in here…it’s in here…it’s in here!”

D'artagnan leaned against the steel counter top of the island in the middle of the grand kitchen nad groaned. His shoulder throbbed badly and he could already feel the blood beginning to seep through his make shift bandages. They needed to get out of there and fast, but which door. The obvious answer was the swinging door because there was light coming from it, but then again there was the freezer door. All laws of physics didn't apply here. They could walk through the swinging door and end up in the basement, or on the roof. He needed to think, but they didn't have much time.

If it was like any normal curse, they had until midnight to get out. After that, the vale would reappear and they would be trapped here for a whole year until they could start their search again. He glanced back at Michelle, she was not meant for things like this, curses and demons. Perhaps his father was right, perhaps he should have allowed them to take her. At least she'd be safer.

"True, it could be that one...but we are in a different dimension love. So, we could go through that door and end up right back where we started and have to start all over again." if this were his labyrinth, it would be he would do. False hopes were his specialty. Just as he was about to take out a coin from his pocket to flip to see which they would go through his slightly pointed ears picked up the sound of movement. He almost groaned at how hard she squeezed his hand but merely pushed her behind him and looked a head.

Slowly the demon rose from the floor, standing perfectly still as if analyzing them. It's many mouths opens and closed making chattering sounds with their teeth. "Stay calm Michelle." he whispered firmly taking a slow step back. They had no weapons, no magic only wit and speed on their sides. "Your intuition is stronger than mine Michelle. You must pick a door." he whispered as the demon took a thundering step towards them. "Concentrate...which door."

She tried, even though she thought it was useless

She watched D’artagnan worriedly, looking at his wound and saw the blood seeping through “Oh D’artagnan” She said fearfully, her lips trembling. They had to get out of here, how much longer could he stay injured like this? He needed to heal and she felt useless that she couldn’t help him in any way. What was the point of being a apparently princess Unicorn if she couldn’t do anything?! If they didn’t get out soon he’d keep bleeding and become weak and then that, that demon thing would get him and….no. No, she couldn’t think like that. D’artagnan had fought a hellhound and his father and she knew he could be strong enough against this demon too. They both could…they both had too because it didn’t seem like they were going to get rescued. They were on their own.

When the demon stood she scream, or at least started to before she quickly covered her mouth with her hand and tried to do as he said, to stay calm…but that was near impossible with it right there before them. When he told her to pick a door she looked at him with wide eyes “What?” She gasped, shaking her head quickly. No, no, no, no. She couldn’t pick a door! She had no idea what she was doing! He was the one with the magic and intelligence and knew what was going on, not her! “I can’t, I can’t…you…you have too!” She would pick the wrong door, she knew it. Her eyes snapped back over to the demon as he stepped closer and she jumped, tears falling down her cheeks “I can’t pick I-I can’t” She whimpered fearfully, looking back at the two doors. How was she supposed to know what door? She could barely pick what muffin she wanted for breakfast! How was she supposed to pick a door?!

The demon came closer and she closed her eyes, trying to take in a deep breath. They had to get out! They had to get away from that creature. D’artagnan had to get help. They couldn’t be stuck here and be eaten by that demon. So she tried, even though she thought it was useless she tried to concentrate. What door? What door? What door? It suddenly seemed to hit her, just out of nowhere and she opened her eyes and looked to the freezer door “This one. It’s this one”

The demon let out a high pitch scream, shattering the glass dinnerwear in the cabinets. D'artagnan covered his ears and groaned. Turning on the sink he pulled out a silver crucifx from his pocket and tossed it into the water. Closing his eyes he whispered a prayer into water. "Benedicite aquae in nomine tuo Domine obsecro ut percutiat nocere volunt daemones." Bless this water oh Lord in your name I pray so that I may smite the demons who wish us harm.

The demon lunged at Michelle, snatching a pot from the holder above his head he scooped the water into the pot and tossed it at the demon. It cried out in pain and backed away smoke rising from its charring skin. Michelle made her choice, taking her hand he rammed his shoulder into the freezer door and leapt through. Unicorns had good instincts Michelle would be no different. A bright light engulfed them and soon the cool dew covered grass hit their senses. D'artagnan's back collided with the grass outside the doors of the school just as the clock chimed midnight. He held Michelle close to his chest as he looked at the open doors to the front of the school. The demon's head peaked out through the darkness it's massive hands grabbing the doors and slamming them shut.

The fae felt a ripple of magic pass through the school and then settle into nothingness. Groaning he rested his head on the dew covered grass and took in a couple of deep breaths. "It's alright now Michelle...we're out. We're safe."

"Were safe! We got out!”

She felt her knees buckle as the demon screeched, covering her ears and wincing from the sound. When she opened her eyes she saw D’artagnan and stepped away to the sink and she quickly moved closer to him “What are you doing?!” She asked, glancing over to the demon and screamed as it came closer still. She turned back to him as she heard the cross hit the bottom of the sink then stared at D’artagnan began to say a prayer. He….he was….she didn’t even know he knew any prayers. She was rusty with her Latin but she knew it was a prayer and that he had spoken the Lord’s name in it. This shocked her enough that she just stared at him and seemed to forget there was a demon coming at them until she heard it lunge and she turned, shouting and stumbling back. Her back hit a counter as the water hit the demon’s skin and scalded it. Holy water…D’artagnan had created holy water from prayer. But how?! He had told her he wasn’t religious! He didn’t in believe in God…did he?

She didn’t have time to process anything more because he suddenly grabbed her hand and threw them through the freezer door, and all she could do was pray now herself that she had picked the right door. She grunted and then felt the air escape her lungs as they hit the grass. She laid there stunned for quite a while, her eyes shut tight and her head buried into his chest, not wanting to look. But slowly she could hear the faraway noise of the Halloween festival, and a soft cool breeze come over her skin. Her eyes opened when she heard him speak and she raised her head, looking around before sitting up quickly. She looked back behind them, expecting to see the demon or a door or…something, but it was just the school. A laugh left her, a surprised yet joyful and relieved laugh and then more followed hysterically until she covered her mouth to control herself “We got out…we got out. Were safe! We got out!”

She grinned and lowered her hands “I did it! I picked the right door! I did! I picked it! I just, I just closed my eyes and I just knew! I knew what door!” She looked down at him and giggled “And you! You prayed! You prayed and blessed the water, sink water! And you created holy water and hurt the demon! That was incredible! You were incredible!” She laughed more then put her arms around him tightly in a hug “I was so afraid! I was so afraid; I thought we weren’t going to get out! And you being injured and-OH! You’re injured!” She leaned back and looked at his arm then his face “I’m sorry, I forgot your injured…are you alright? Do you need me to get help? I can go get help if you need help, but I’m just so happy you’re going to be ok and you’re not dead!”

She touched his face and gazed at him with a smile then found herself kissing his cheek over and over a few times…and then somehow her lips misguided themselves because she seemed to miss his cheek on the last one and peck his lips. She froze and gasped, leaning back “Oh! Oh Im…im sorry I didn’t mean…I’m sorry I…Im sorry!”

At least she wasn't crying. That was a good thing, he honestly didn't think his nerves could take anymore crying. He sat up slowly and rubbed his head. A couple of people were looking at them oddly as they passed. After all, they looked like they had just come out of a horror movie. Poor Michelle's dress was ruined, he'd by her another of course, but it had been a lovely dress. His jacket was lost in that stupid labyrinth, he'd never see that thing again. Pity, it was his favorite.

"You did well Misha, you trusted your instincts and they lead you to safety." D'artagnan literally stiffened at her declaration of him praying. Raising his head slightly he corrected her. "I did not pray, I simply invoked a spell from your God to purify water. Nothing more." He had secretly hoped she hadn't seen that part. It was rather embarassing. To fae, the human God was like any other diety in the world. You put an ingredient in water and speak an incantation. Your God is simply easier to invoke." the injured fae rose to his feet and limped his way over to the school fountain. He could feel his magic returning but it still hurt to move. Her embrace made his gasp in pain but he still hugged her.

Adrinaline was over with, now he was hanging by very little. Lowering himself to sit on the edge of the fountain and removed his make shift bandages. The cool autumn air stung the open sores. He was cursing very loudly in his brain at this moment, but kept it to himself as to not hear Michelle yell at him. "It's fine." he said lowly dipping his arm into the water of the founter. For a few seconds nothing happened until the water began to glow brightly. When he removed his arm it was completely healed with no scar. Leaning closer he cupped the water in his hand and ran it over his shoulder. The wound vanished as the water traveled down his shirt making the white fabric cling to his skin.

"There all bett...ah!." he had not expected the onslaught of kisses from Michelle. Though they were graciously accepted with a smile and chuckle. Then her lips found his and for a moment he stiffened and stared at her. She began to ramble again, sliding his fingers into her hair he pulled her face to his and kissed her. He put all of his emotion into his kiss his fingers wrapping in her golden locks. He wasn't going to let this moment slip through his fingers.

She found herself melting

He didn’t pray? She gave him an odd yet amused look. “I heard you! I course your prayed!” Oh she was all sunshine and rainbows in that instant, she was just so happy they were alive and had gotten out safely. But she had heard him, she knew what he had done, that couldn’t be a spell, it was prayer no matter what he called it, she knew what it was .”He is a wonderful and merciful God that is why! He helped us escape!” Was it really her instincts that picked the right door or God guiding her? Before she would have never questioned it, she would have automatically thought God, but lately she was questioning absolutely everything ever since she had been attacked by a hound from hell. She frowned when he got up, worried to see him limping and quickly followed behind him to the fountain. “Do you want me to go get help? I can go get help”.

When he unwrapped his wounds she made a very disgusted and horrified face. Oh they looked terrible! Yes, yes she needed to go get help and she was ready too until he said he was fine and put his hand in the water “D’artagnan I-I don’t think that your-“ She stopped and turned as the fountain glowed and after tonight’s events, she was a bit jumpy to say the least and she shouted in surprised and stepped away from the fountain, as if she thought the demon was going to leap out of it. But as the brightness faded and nothing came out, she looked to D’artagnan and her jaw dropped to see that he was all better. She came closer and sat next to him, laughing some in awe as she shook her head. Magic…she still had yet to wrap her head around the wonders of it.

She had been just a little too excited over everything…she hadn’t meant to kiss him and for a few brief moments as he stared at her afterwards for it she felt like pretending to pass out from the stress just so she didn’t have to deal with the embarrassment. When he touched her hair she blinked and immediately stopped talking, then gasped as he brought her lips against his. Oh ok that…that she hadn’t be expecting. At all. She had never kissed anyone before and she had never thought he of all people would want to kiss her, her, stupid silly Michelle. She was stiff at first from the shock of it, wondering what she was supposed to do. She shouldn’t be doing this…this was wrong. She couldn’t kiss anyone, no matter the situation. But his lips felt so wonderful, so warm and perfect….she found herself melting, carefully moving her lips back against his.

D'artagan pulled her closer, completely lost in the essence that was Michelle. One arm wrapped around her waist holding her close to him the other made it's way into her hair tangling themselves in her golden tresses. They had survived. That alone was enough to get them in this position but it was his desire for her that moved him to deepen the kiss.

In a puff of purple and silver smoke D'artagnan teleported them away from teh school. They needed a break from it and put them in his room. A fire burned softly in the hearth warming the room against the chill of the autumn air. Lifting the little blond woman he wrapped her legs around his waist. The djinn's hands traveled up the frayed tattered ends of her dress to touch the silk like skin of her thigh and backside.

This is wrong he told himself trying to get his brain to start working again. Michelle was innocent in every possible way. Just thinking about touching her was wrong. But he couldn't help it, he was running on emotions. "Do you want me to stop?" he whispered huskily as his mouth traced over the inside of her jaw and down her neck while his fingers slowly pulled the zipped down her body and side the thin straps off her shoulders. Oh if his father was here...if his father was here D'artagnan would be a bleeding mess on the floor withing in agony. But he wasn't, it was just him and Michelle.

D'artagnan moved forward and lowered Michelle to the bed, his mix matched gaze staring into hers. He needed an answer, he would stop if she wanted, but if she said to continue there would be no stopping him

“I don’t want you to stop”

He was….wow. Were all kisses like this? She felt…she felt giddy and floaty and warm and happy and peaceful, oh so many things just in that one embrace of their lips. Her heart was beating fast but her body seemed to so easily react to him pulling her closer, just allowed itself to melt into him so effortlessly. Oh she loved him, how much she loved him and she never imagined he could ever feel like that towards her but…but he was kissing her and touching her…but no, didn’t mean he loved her. A kiss could, just be kissing, couldn’t it? But not to her. They had survived, multiple things already together, and maybe it was life trying to tell her that she didn’t have all the time in the world to do things. Life was short, very short, whether she really was some Unicorn or not….and she loved him so much.

When he transported them away she noticed the sound of the fountain and people was suddenly gone and she gasped in surprised and glanced around to see they were in his home. She barely had time to register this however because he was picking her up against him and her arms automatically went around his neck, brushing the back of his neck. She shivered hard when his hands traveled over her skin, biting her bottom lip “D’artagnan…” She spoke his name softly, her voice trembling with uncertainty and nervousness. What was he doing? What were they doing? This was wrong, very wrong. She couldn’t be doing this. She was a woman of God; a holy, celibate and proper woman who was to never allow such sinful things to transpire. Her heart was hammering in her chest, this was all happening so quickly. What did she do?

His question just confused her more, even though it was a simple question, at least it was supposed too. The answer had to be yes, she wanted him to stop, he had to stop. If he didn’t stop then….then what would happen? Where was this going? She had never done anything like this, obviously. But her eyes closed and a soft breath left her lips as his own lips traced along her jaw, her hands gripping him tighter around his neck. No, no, no…no this shouldn’t feel good, it couldn’t feel good and even though it did, there was nothing that could be done about it. This wasn’t allowed. This was forbidden. They couldn’t do this. It was wrong. It was sin…incredible sin. She was hyper aware as she felt him slide the straps off her shoulders, as if the sensitivity of her skin had been turned up by a thousand.

Her body trembled more as he laid her back against the bed, her hands slowly trailing down over his shoulders to his chest as she gazed back in his eyes unwaveringly. He did need an answer, she needed an answer as well quite frankly, she had no idea what she wanted to say. She gazed at him for what seemed eternity then touched his face with a shaking hand “I don’t want you to stop” The words tumbled out timidly before she gently pressed her mouth against his.
